Bella Vista High School Football Rules

I can only remember one football game
From my days as an offensive tackle
In high school.

The game was a tie.

It was a most exciting game.
Our MVP blocked a field goal attempt
In the final play,
Denying the other team’s victory
And securing

our tie.

I remember the surge of elation
As the Broncos rejoiced,
Even as I questioned my own rejoice.
Coach Pochey echoed my concerns
As he summarized our performance
At the end of the next practice
On a Monday:

“A tie…. I don’t know about you, but I wanna WIN!”

I remember ol’ Turkey had a different take
under the Friday night light:

“It doesn’t get any better than this!”

he said
with a huge shit-eating grin,
The type only ol’ Turkey could make.
